Putting on the Armor
The Armor of God | Part 2
One of the biggest misconceptions Christians have about the Armor of God is that it is merely a symbolic picture.
Many believers can quote Ephesians 6. They know about the helmet, the shield, the breastplate, and the sword. Yet they still struggle with defeat, discouragement, confusion, and inconsistency.
Why?
Because knowing about the armor is not the same as putting it on.
If we are going to win the battles of life, we must understand what the Armor of God actually is and how to use it every day.
You Have Been Perfectly Equipped
The Armor of God consists of seven pieces. In Scripture, the number seven represents completeness and perfection. That means God has not left you partially equipped. He has perfectly equipped you for every challenge, every battle, every test, and every season you will ever face.
Think about that for a moment.
The battle may be financial pressure. It may be a difficult business decision. It may be conflict in a relationship. It may be fear, anxiety, disappointment, or uncertainty about the future. Whatever the battle is, God has already provided everything you need to overcome it.
You are not lacking equipment.
You simply need to learn how to use what God has already provided.
What Is the Armor of God?
The Armor of God is the knowledge of and proper application of God's Word.
That changes everything.
The armor is not a religious ritual. The armor is not a mental exercise. The armor is not simply imagining yourself wearing spiritual equipment. The armor is God's Word working in your life. Every piece of armor represents a truth, promise, principle, or revelation found in Scripture. This is why a believer cannot consistently live in victory while neglecting God's Word. If I am not spending time in Scripture, I am not putting on the armor. If I know God's Word but never apply it, I am not putting on the armor. The armor becomes effective when knowledge turns into action.
The Danger of Knowledge Without Application
The prophet Hosea wrote:
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."
Notice he did not say the world was destroyed. He said God's people.
Believers can love God and still live defeated lives because they never develop a strong understanding of His Word. When we neglect God's truth, three things begin to happen.
Destruction
Without God's Word guiding our decisions, we become vulnerable to mistakes, poor choices, and unnecessary pain.
We lose battles we were equipped to win.
Captivity
What begins as a struggle can become a stronghold. Fear, addiction, bitterness, anxiety, insecurity, and unhealthy habits begin to control areas of our lives. Instead of living free, we live bound.
Deception
The final stage is believing lies instead of truth.
The enemy constantly whispers:
“You'll never change. You'll never recover.
You'll never succeed.
You'll never get through this.”
Without God's Word, people begin believing those lies. But God's truth exposes deception and brings freedom.
From Hearers to Doers
James teaches us that we must not be hearers only. We must become doers of the Word. The blessing is not found in hearing truth. The blessing is found in applying truth. As leaders, this principle is critical. Information alone never changes anything. Transformation happens when truth becomes action. The same is true spiritually. God's Word must move from our heads into our hearts and then into our daily decisions.
Five Ways to Put On the Armor
If the Armor of God is the knowledge and proper application of Scripture, how do we put it on every day?
1. Meditate on God's Word
Do not rush through Scripture.
Slow down.
Allow the Holy Spirit to highlight truths that need your attention.
When you meditate on problems, worry grows.
When you meditate on God's promises, faith grows.
What you meditate on eventually becomes part of your life.
2. Personalize God's Word
God's promises become powerful when you make them personal.
Do not simply read that God is a defender.
Declare that He is your defender.
Do not simply read that God provides peace.
Declare that His peace belongs to you.
Faith grows when God's promises become personal.
3. Declare God's Word
The words coming out of your mouth matter.
Speak what God says about you.
Declare His promises over your family, your business, your future, and your circumstances.
Your declarations remind you of who you are, what you have, and what you can do through Christ.
4. Apply God's Word
Knowledge without action produces frustration.
The Bible was never intended to be merely studied.
It was intended to be lived.
Every truth you learn should find practical expression in your daily life.
Application is where victory begins.
5. Pray God's Word
Prayer activates what God has revealed.
When you pray Scripture, you are aligning your heart with God's truth and inviting His power into your situation.
Prayer is not a last resort.
Prayer is one of the greatest weapons God has given us.
Leadership Challenge
This week, choose one piece of the Armor of God and study it intentionally.
Find Scriptures related to that area.
Meditate on them.
Declare them.
Pray them.
Apply them.
Do not try to master all seven pieces at once. Focus on one truth and allow it to become part of your daily life. Remember, victory is not found in simply knowing God's Word. Victory is found in knowing it, believing it, speaking it, and living it. God has already equipped you. Now it is time to put on the armor.
