Equipping others

From Good to Great

The most successful churches are built by leaders who know how to equip others. Great leaders don’t just build ministries. They build people. They understand that their growth is multiplied when they help others grow.

The Power of Equipping

Equipping is not a one-time act; it’s a process. It’s about empowering others to perform at their best and helping them develop into all God has called them to be. When we commit to equipping, we produce growth and raise the level of excellence around us.

Ephesians 4:11–16 teaches us that our calling as leaders is to equip the saints for the work of ministry. Equipping means:

  • Empowering others

  • Encouraging others

  • Adding value to others

  • Helping others reach their potential

  • Raising up future leaders

  • Taking people from good to great

No one achieves greatness alone. Every great man or woman of God has had others standing beside them and behind them. We all need someone ahead of us to learn from and someone beside us to walk with. Leadership is not about doing everything yourself. It’s about multiplying yourself in others.

Invest in the Right People

Not everyone is ready to be equipped. Choose people who are faithful, available, and teachable. Look for those who:

  • Believe in the vision

  • Lift the load

  • Have godly character

  • Possess a great attitude

Don’t invest in those who aren’t growing or willing to grow. Growing people grow people.

Why Some Leaders Don’t Equip Others

Many leaders fail to equip others because of:

  1. Ego

  2. Lack of training

  3. Fear of being replaced

  4. Competition

  5. Wrong motives

  6. Insecurity

  7. Fear

When we operate from fear or insecurity, we limit what God can do through us. Equipping requires humility and faith. It’s trusting God enough to raise others up beside you.

How to Equip People from Good to Great

  1. Share the vision – Keep the mission in front of your team.

  2. Ask for commitment – Growth takes buy-in.

  3. Set goals for growth – Clear direction produces focused development.

  4. Communicate the basics – Never assume people know what you expect.

  5. Realize it’s a process – Growth takes time and consistency.

  6. Reward and recognize – Celebrate progress and faithfulness.

Remember, we grow by dreams. When you help others discover and pursue God’s dream for their life, you move them from good to great.

Final Thoughts

Leaders who equip others don’t lose influence. They multiply it. Every time you empower someone else, you expand your capacity and strengthen your team. God’s plan for your leadership is not addition. It’s multiplication.

Keep equipping. Keep empowering. Keep developing others. That’s how your ministry, and your people, go from good to great.
