Building Strong Teams
The 5 C’s of Training That Transform Organizations
Have you ever heard the expression that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link? Well the same is true for your organization. With competition and innovation growing in the marketplace like never before, legendary leaders understand how vital it is to train and invest in their teams to make sure they don’t fall behind.
Weak, incompetent, and inept employees will only deter the advancement of your organization. If we want to be successful and continue to grow we need to create training and growth plans that address weaknesses and build on strengths. We want to be the kind of leader that comes along side our teams and help them to optimize their performance and fill in their skill gaps so that they can say about us, “Under that leader I was able to spread my wings and fly!”
When employees understand what they are doing, why they are doing it, and how to do it, they will be more efficient and produce better results. One Gallup study of around 2500 businesses looked at 5 key conditions for a company to grow at least 10% within 2 years. One of the factors was the ability to “endure the growth journey.” The study found that when leaders or employers have set training and education for their employees, it creates an emotional bond that in turn leads to growth for the entire organization.
"The only thing worse than training employees and losing them is to not train them and keep them.”
— Zig Ziglar
“Every enterprise is a learning and teaching institution. Training and development must be built into it on all levels—training, and development that never stop.”
— Peter Drucker
According to Webster’s dictionary. the word “train,” means to teach, to make fit, qualified, or proficient.” If your training program doesn’t rise to that standard, applying the following will help get you there:
BE CREATIVE - Use fresh, exciting ways to explain things. Don’t let yourself get into a rut in your thinking.
BE CLEAR - Make sure you say what you mean in a way that can easily be understood by others.
BE COURAGEOUS - Don’t be afraid to correct and confront others when necessary. Don’t allow wrong practices to continue just because you don’t want to risk hurting someone’s feelings.
BE CONSISTENT - Model the behavior and skills you want to see in others.
BE COMMITTED - Learning takes time and people often learn at different paces, so make the determination to see the process through to the end.
I encourage you to make these 5 C’s a part of your training program and watch your organization soar to new levels!
