The Power of Expectation
Why Legendary Leaders Believe God Is FOR Them
Our mission statement at Church on the Rock is “To lead people to a God who is FOR THEM, and to help them discover His purpose for their life.” I get a lot of questions about that small part, “FOR THEM.” The sad fact of the matter is this. Most people believe in God, but they don’t believe in a God who is FOR THEM. They believe that God is some distant being who could care less about their personal needs, family, and business. Because of this wrong perception, they expect nothing, believe for nothing, and attract nothing into their life.
As a young boy I would listen with my father to the great Healing Evangelist, Oral Roberts on the radio. During his sermon he would say things like, “God wants you well, God wants you prosperous, God wants you to be a whole person.” Then he would end the broadcast with this famous line that I never forgot, “Something Good is Going to Happen to you TODAY!” You see his belief in the goodness of God affected his expectation. Then his expectation affected his life.
Legendary leaders understand that God meets them on the level of their expectation. Psalm 31:24 says, “Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and EXPECT the Lord!” If our expectations are based on events and circumstances, we’re headed for disappointment, but if our expectations are rooted in God and His promises, we can’t fail.
"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't—you're right."
— Henry Ford
“Do not expect troubles as they have a tendency not to disappoint.”
— Napoleon Hill
Our level of expectation literally sets the limits and boundaries for our lives. If we expect little, God is only able to do little but if we expect much, God is able to do much.
Hebrews 10:23 tells us to “hold fast the confession of our hope (EXPECTATION) without wavering for He who promised is faithful.”
Another thing to keep in mind is this: Expectation is a matter of choice, not chance. You are going to have to be intentional with your thinking, speaking, and believing. When everything in your family and business looks like it’s going down the tubes, you must resolve to take God at His Word and trust Him to do what He said He would do.
We are about one quarter through the year and I know many of you have given up on your resolutions, goals, and objectives. You’ve fallen back into that trap of expecting the worst to happen. Let me encourage you — shake it off! Get back to meditating on the faithfulness of God and set your sights accordingly. EXPECT to see His promises fulfilled in your life, family, and business in 2025!
God is for You,
