How to Make Great Decisions

We don’t have to live by chance—we can live by choice. God has given us the ability and the authority to make decisions that shape our destiny. The direction of our life and the fruitfulness of our calling are not accidental—they are the result of our decisions.

Decisions Determine Our Direction

God wants us to live on purpose. Decisions are the bridge between where we are and where God wants us to be. Every day we are faced with choices, and those choices are building our life.

Philippians 1:9–10 says,
"And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; that ye may approve things that are excellent..."

Judgment means insight and discernment. We pray daily to grow in love, knowledge, and discernment. That’s how we approve what is excellent and avoid what is deceptive.

Don’t Let Bad Decisions Replace Your Dreams

Procrastination is the enemy of destiny. It's not just about delay—it’s a decision in itself. When we delay obeying God, we open the door to depression, disorder, and missed opportunity. Decisions transform ideas into reality. Indecision leads to anxiety, fear, and frustration, while action releases resources, creativity, and relationships.

Your Life Hinges on the Power of Choice

In Deuteronomy 30:19, God says,
"I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live."

God wants us to choose life—but He still gives us the responsibility to make that choice. We must stop blaming others and start taking responsibility. Our decisions affect not only us, but our children and generations to come.

Make the Word Your Foundation

You can’t recall a Word you’ve never received. Proverbs 4:20–23 tells us to attend to God’s Word with our ears and eyes, because from it flow the issues—boundaries—of life. What’s coming out of your spirit determines the size of the life you’re living.

We cling to God by clinging to His Word. That’s how we make great decisions. We put the Word in when we don’t need it, so it comes out when we do.

Guidance Comes to a Moving Person

John 16:13 tells us that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. But we must be moving. God directs our steps—not our standstills. When we confess God is leading us—through His Word, by His Word, and in His Word—He will direct our paths.

Before you make decisions, connect with God. Do what you already know to do, and then He’ll show you what you don’t know.

Surround Yourself with the Right Voices

Not everyone has the right to speak into your life. The person who does will have:

  • A proven track record,

  • A heart for your growth,

  • A willingness to speak truth in love,

  • A desire to see God’s best in your life.

How to Make Great Decisions:

  1. Pray and ask God to help.

  2. Cling to God’s Word.

  3. Connect with God before choosing.

  4. Walk in humility.

  5. Fear the Lord.

  6. Seek wise counsel.

When we walk in the wisdom of God’s Word and depend on the leading of the Holy Spirit, we can make great decisions—decisions that align with our destiny and glorify God.
