Six Ways to Prepare for Opportunity

Opportunity doesn’t knock for those who aren’t ready. As John Wooden said, “When opportunity comes, it’s too late to prepare.” Here are six ways you can start preparing today:

1. Work on Your Strengths Daily

Focus on what you do best. Strength grows with use. When preparation meets opportunity, that’s when success happens.

2. Invest in Your Relationships

You’ll never go further than your ability to get along with people. Relationships shape your future—and even your income level. Choose wisely who you let into your circle.

Nurture relationships intentionally:

  • Add value to people

  • Celebrate their milestones

  • Stay connected

Poor people look for jobs. Wealthy people look for relationships. Don’t chase opportunity—build relationships and opportunity will find you.

3. Develop the Right Attitude Toward Adversity

Jesus said, Be of good cheer—I have overcome the world (John 16:33). That means your attitude matters. Every open door has opposition on the other side. New levels bring new devils.

So when adversity comes, don’t just get through it—grow through it.

4. Feed Your Faith

According to your faith, it will be done to you (Matthew 9:29). Faith isn’t something you can outsource. Don’t substitute service for spirituality.

Make time for:

  • Bible reading

  • Confession of the Word

  • Personal time with God

Spiritual habits keep you anchored when storms rise.

5. Elevate Your Thinking

As a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). Your thoughts shape your destiny.

You are a thought leader—so think like one. Ask yourself:

If everyone thought the way I do, where would they end up?

Keep preparing your mind. As long as you're thinking forward, you're moving forward.

6. Ask These Three Questions Daily:

  1. What did I learn today?

  2. Where did I grow today? (In skill, faith, relationships, attitude)

  3. What will I do differently tomorrow?

These questions keep your leadership fresh, intentional, and growing.

Leadership isn’t about a title. It’s about responsibility.

Choose to inspire.

Choose excellence.

And prepare now for the doors God is getting ready to open.
