Running Down Your Dream
As leaders, one of the most important questions we must answer is this: What is the dream God has placed on my life?
Every one of us has been created with purpose. We’re not here by accident. We’re not here just to exist—we’re here to make a difference, to leave a legacy, and to impact our generation for good.
But if we’re honest, life has a way of trying to steal that dream.
Some of you had a dream at one point, but life got hard. Maybe disappointment came. Maybe someone spoke against it. Maybe you shared your dream with the wrong people, and instead of encouragement, you received doubt. If that’s you, I want to encourage you today—your dream is still alive. God hasn’t changed His mind about you.
The question is: will you pick it back up and run after it?
Dream Big—Because God Thinks Big
The Bible tells us in Ephesians 3:20 that God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think. That tells me something important—our asking and our thinking matter.
If we’re going to walk in God’s best, we have to think big. We have to dream big.
But it doesn’t stop there. It’s not enough to have a dream—we have to run it down. We have to pursue it with intention, discipline, and consistency.
How Do You Discover Your Dream?
Let me give you some practical guidance that will help you uncover and walk in your God-given assignment.
1. Find Your Passion
What stirs your heart? What keeps coming back to your mind? Passion is a clue to purpose. When you’re passionate about something, it fuels you. It gives you endurance. Passion keeps you from burning out.
2. Identify What You’re Good At
It’s not just about what you love—it’s also about what you’re equipped to do. God has given you gifts, talents, and abilities for a reason. Discover them, and then commit to developing them daily.
3. Look for Results (Fruit)
Where do you see results in your life? Where do you naturally make an impact? When you’re operating in your calling, there will be fruit. Things will grow around you.
4. Pay Attention to What Comes Naturally
Some things require constant strain. Others flow. That natural flow is often a sign of grace—God’s empowerment on your life.
5. Listen to the Right Voices
Not everyone qualifies to speak into your life. But the right people—those who love you, believe in you, and want God’s best for you—can help you see strengths you may overlook.
6. Get the Right Mentors
Acceleration happens when you learn from those who have already walked the path. Don’t try to figure it all out alone. Find people who are doing what you’re called to do and learn from them.
7. Stay Humble and Grateful
Pride will take you off course faster than anything. Stay teachable. Stay grateful. The moment you think you’ve arrived is the moment you stop growing.
8. Watch What You Do in Your Free Time
What you do when no one is watching reveals what you’re truly passionate about. Your habits in private often point to your calling in public.
9. Serve Others
If you don’t know your dream yet, serve someone else’s. When you help others succeed, God positions people to help you. That’s the principle of sowing and reaping.
10. Commit to Daily Growth
If you don’t grow today, tomorrow won’t be better. Leaders are lifelong learners. If this is truly your dream, you won’t just endure the process—you’ll enjoy it.
Run After It
Joseph had a dream at 17, but he didn’t see it fulfilled until years later. He went through the pit, the prison, and the process—but he never let go of the dream.
And that’s what I want to leave you with today.
Don’t let setbacks stop you. Don’t let opinions define you. Don’t let fear hold you back.
Discover your dream.
Develop your gifts.
Stay faithful in the process.
And spend your life running after what God has placed inside of you.
Because when you are in your place, walking in your purpose, you won’t just succeed—you’ll make a difference that outlives you.
